Tanning Tips

Eye Protection
Eye Protection is a must! Consider it your ticket to admission at the salon. Your eyelids are the thinnest membranes on your body and need protection. The law requires that you tan with eye protection that meet federal guidelines for tanning.

Your Lips
Have no melanin and will not tan. Take care of them with a SPF lip protection when tanning indoors and out.

Sensitive Areas
Tanning more sensitive areas requires extra precaution. Breasts, butts, underarm areas to name a few can be more delicate. Shield these area in the beginning and gradually expose them to the ultra-violet light during the first few sessions.

Medications
Some prescription drugs, like antibiotics, contraceptives, topical solutions, and even some foods can make your more sensitive to ultra-violet light. Please consult with your physician if you have questions and let the tanning consultant know.

Why Tan
With your skin being your body's largest organ it makes sense to protect it. Many people tan indoors before going away on vacation to get a good base. In fact a tan is your body's own natural SPF of a 2 to 8 depending on your skin type. A good base in combination with a SPF helps many guarantee an enjoyable burn free time.

You may also know of various health benefits associated with UV exposure, like the production of Vitamin D that helps prevent the bone diseases (osteoporosis), relief from the discomfort of psoriasis, SAD (seasonal affective disorder) to name a few. But due to the FDA regulations, the indoor tanning industry may not make any medical claims. The fact is, light is essential to all life on earth. There are many reasons, physiological and psychological why a tan and exposure to UV light is desirable.
